There are many myths in the world today that share false information about dental care and oral health topics. Unfortunately, these myths lead to poor oral hygiene and smile care, resulting in major and even serious dental issues. So, Dr. Kim Loan Nguyen would like to share the facts about dental myths so you know the truth about your smile.

Myth No. 1: It’s normal to have bleeding gums.

It’s not normal to have bleeding gums, so if you see a little pink in the sink, please contact our office and schedule a dental appointment. If your gums are bleeding, that means they are irritated with your brushing and flossing technique. This is typically a sign of gum disease. So, please visit your dentist as well as keep up on oral hygiene.

Myth No. 2: String floss is the only tool you can use to clean between your teeth.

There are many tools you can use to effectively clean the crevices of your smile. In fact, there are tools like flossing sticks and water flossers that clean your mouth properly and effectively. So, feel free to use them if necessary.

Myth No. 3: Your teeth are healthy if they don’t hurt.

There are many dental issues, like gum disease, that attack the smile without producing painful symptoms. So, this myth is false. Not having tooth pain does not mean your teeth are healthy. So, even though your teeth feel fine and dandy, please keep up on oral hygiene and visit your dentist regularly.
